Finding room to store seasonal tires can be a challenge. Tires with rims can be stacked on their sides (but not too high to avoid tipping), or hung from hooks through the wheel. Unmounted tires (no rims) must be stored upright - stacking or hanging will only distort and damage them. Determined to find a way to keep his extra tires off the garage floor, Rick created a rack that conveniently lifts two sets of tires safely out of the way.
Great project, Rick! Thanks for sharing it with us!
What is it used for? For storing two sets of seasonal tires out of the way. The electric hoist lifts and lowers the tires to the garage ceiling.
What is the main power source for your project? (e.g. electric motor, gas engine etc.) I used a Powerfist electric hoist.
How do you control your project? (e.g. hydraulic control valve(s), electric switches etc.) Integrated switch on the remote.
What components are used to perform the work for your project? (e.g. hydraulic cylinder(s), hydraulic motor(s), sprockets, pulleys etc.) Powerfist electric hoist, 2 inch square tubing, pulleys, slotted angle metal.
What design/build challenges did you come across and solve? Lifting and lowering needs manual help to keep rack level. As this only happens twice a year, not much of a problem.
Which Princess Auto location do you visit most? The north store in Edmonton, AB.
