Tell us about yourself: “I’m a college student who loves mechanics. I’ve already built a motorized bicycle, and a motorcycle with a Honda 120cc engine.”
Warmer weather tends to bring out fun projects like this one. All the planning, budgeting, problem-solving and fabricating pieces are all part of the hands-on learning process. Judging by the final result, Roger has done a great job!
Great project, Roger! Thanks for sharing it with us!
What is the main power source for your project? (e.g. electric motor, gas engine etc.) The motor is a 212cc Predator engine. The 3/4 in. 10-tooth clutch, 60-tooth sprocket, roller chain, 7 in. brake disc and brake caliper all came from Princess Auto.
What design/build challenges did you overcome? Learning to weld was quite a challenge while working with 1 in. square tubing. I had to match the right chain/sprocket and place the engine at the right spot, considering the huge back tire. I installed rods on the brake and gas controls, while the steering mechanism had to be built from different sources. I added shock absorbers rated at 750 lbs, and made a homemade seat.
If you had to build it again, what would you do differently? I would maybe try a smaller engine, use a different size of centrifugal clutch and add hydraulic brakes.
Which Princess Auto location do you visit most? The one in Laval or Ottawa.
