Tell us about yourself: “I graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1971 (the last century) as an Industrial Designer, but spent most of my career working for the Ontario Government. However with the I.D. Degree I have built three houses, a lot of furniture, some sail boats, toys for my granddaughter, and a motor cycle.”
Have you ever played with those MECCANO building sets when you were a kid? They came loaded with metal strips, girders, plates, wheels, axles and gears (not to mention about a gazillion little nuts and bolts – your parents knew all too well) to piece whatever your young engineering mind could dream up. Bill’s extra-long, street-legal three wheeler (which he nicknamed “The Beast”) almost looks like an advanced version of the famous construction toy. Only more fun to build, and a heck of a lot more powerful. If you’re going to build, you might as well build BIG!
Terrific project, Bill! Thanks for sharing it with us!

What is the main power source for your project? (e.g. electric motor, gas engine etc.) The bike is powered by a bored-out (350 cu in) small block Chevy engine through a turbo 350 automatic transmission and a Ford Explorer rear end.
What components are used to perform the work for your project? (e.g. hydraulic cylinder(s), hydraulic motor(s), sprockets, pulleys etc.)
What design/build challenges were overcome? Well this was the first vehicle that I had built, so I constructed a wooden mock-up (three times) around the engine, the rear end, a Harley front end (original design) - just to work out the spacing, etc. for all of the components.
