Tell us about yourself: “I like building things, like a hydraulic shovel and a track for a small ATV.”
Using a variety of hydraulic components from our DRIVELINE department, Dany built this efficient machine that loads, cuts and splits logs with minimal effort. Watching a log go through the process on this machine is quite impressive.
Great machine, Dany! Thanks for sharing it with us!
What is it? It’s a machine for cutting and splitting firewood effortlessly.
What is the main power source for your project? (e.g. electric motor, gas engine, etc.) A 22 HP gas engine.
How do you control your project? (e.g. hydraulic control valve(s), electric switches, etc.) Hydraulic valves and a 12 GPM hydraulic pump.
What components are used to perform the work for your project? (e.g. hydraulic cylinder(s), hydraulic motor(s), sprockets, pulleys, etc.) Cylinders, pump, hydraulic motor. One medium cylinder is used to lift the tree onto the machine. One small cylinder holds the tree in place. One large cylinder behind the machine adjusts the blade that splits the log into two, four or six pieces, and another 5-inch cylinder pushes the tree into the blade to split it.
What design/build challenges were overcome? We had to ensure that everything was solid enough to support the weight of a 22-inch diameter tree.
If you had to build it again, what would you do differently? Nothing.
Which Princess Auto location do you visit most? The one on the Internet (online store).
